Domain Transfer FAQ
How long does a domain transfer take?
For most .com/.net-style extensions, about five days. That window is the registry's: your current registrar has five days to approve or decline the request, and if it does nothing the transfer goes ahead. Country-code domains such as .bd follow their own registry's process and can take longer.
Will my website and email be affected?
No. A transfer moves who your domain is registered with — it does not change your nameservers, so whatever is serving your site and mail today keeps serving it. If you also want to move your hosting, that is a separate step you control.
What is an EPP or authorisation code?
A one-off password the registry uses to prove you authorised the move. Your current registrar issues it, usually from the domain's settings page or on request. It is a credential: we encrypt it as soon as it reaches us, never display it back, and send it to the registry only to request your transfer.
Can I transfer a domain that is locked?
Not while it is locked — that is exactly what the registrar lock is for. Turn it off at your current registrar first. Once your domain is with us you control the same lock yourself from your dashboard.
Why does my domain have to be 60 days old?
ICANN blocks a transfer within 60 days of a domain being registered, or of a previous transfer. That is a registry rule, not a ServerNeed restriction, and no registrar can waive it.
Do I lose the time left on my registration?
No. For most extensions the registry adds a further year on top of what you already have when the transfer completes, which is what the transfer price covers.
Is there any other fee?
No. The transfer price shown above is the whole charge, and checkout re-confirms it in your account's billing currency before you pay. Your next renewal is then charged at the ordinary renewal price for that extension.
What if my transfer does not go through?
A transfer is usually refused for one of three reasons: the domain is still locked, the authorisation code is wrong or expired, or it is inside the 60-day window. Check those first — domain charges are non-refundable, so it is worth confirming the lock and the code before you order. If it still fails, open a ticket and we will retry it with a corrected code.
